Civil Concepts was called in to analyze a steel I-beam framed, three story medical facility that had been damaged by fire when construction was nearly 80% complete.  The steel columns spanned continuously from ground to roof, approximately 45 linear feet.  It was claimed that the fire deformed the steel columns on ground floor.  If this was the case, total removal and replacement of building above the ground floor concrete slab would have been required.  Civil Concepts performed a complete survey of all floors, columns and beams.  We created and analyzed a 3-Dimensional model of the entire structure using the results of our survey.  Based on the results of our 3D model and analysis, the structural steel design engineer of record agreed that the steel columns were in fact only deflected by weight of collapsed concrete slabs and NOT deformed by fire.  Only two (2) steel beams were removed and replaced and a majority of the building was salvaged, resulting in significant time and cost savings to the client.
