The value we have added on our most difficult claims is significant and measurable. Often times difficult claims are those that have been ongoing for some time, under the services of other competing firms with no agreement and the most challenging issues unresolved. We used these difficult claims to measure our success; comparing the state of a difficult claim upon engagement of Civil Concepts, to the final results resolved with Civil Concepts efforts.
For example, we were asked by clients to the Christchurch New Zealand earthquakes approximately 9 months after the most damaging earthquake occurred. When we began, our clients had reserves set based on the findings of our predecessors. Upon completion of our unbiased, accurate and thorough response and solutions, we saved our insurance carrier clients approximately $100 million; this measured from the aggregate value of reserves when we began, to the final settlement amounts for property damage and business interruption associated with the claims we worked on.
We saved the total demolition of a new construction medical facility in Waco, TX that was damaged by fire; and prescribed by our predecessors as requiring total demolition due to suspected of heating and deforming steel columns supporting this four level structure, thus requiring total replacement. By the end of our first day of inspection, we accurately concluded that the steel columns were not deformed by heat, rather they were deflecting temporarily by the superimposed weight of the unsupported concrete slabs pulling on the columns. Working in conjunction with the engineer of record, we confirmed the steel columns had no heat damaged and the building structure was salvaged, saving our client over $3 million.
Countless times our clients have assigned Civil Concepts their most difficult cases and claims, problems stemming from difficult personalities to projects with disputed causes and others with incomplete or inappropriate methods of repair. As one former Executive General Adjuster with Zurich once said “Civil Concepts is the firm you call when you have a really challenging claim.
